Premature burial has unquestionably happened in the past and there are some recent cases of people being saved from the brink. Who can contemplate this ultimate of horrors without being chilled to the marrow? This illustrated talk will describe the precautions taken by people fearful of an unreliable pronouncement of death, including waiting mortuaries and specially-constructed escape coffins.
